A hardware wallet protects your private keys by keeping them separate from your phone or computer. But there's another challenge: **How can you be sure the transaction you're about to sign actually does what you expect?**

Interacting with smart contracts, DeFi protocols, and tokens can involve actions that aren't immediately obvious. For example, instead of simply swapping tokens, you might accidentally grant a smart contract unlimited access to your assets.

That's the problem ERA Lens is designed to address.

## **What Is ERA Lens?**

**ERA Lens is an offline transaction decoding and risk analysis system built into the ERA hardware wallet.**

It translates supported transaction data into human-readable information directly on the device, without an internet connection or external decoding services.

Before signing, users can review:

- Transaction amounts and recipient addresses.
- Network and transaction fees.
- Smart contract interactions and token approvals.
- Warnings about potentially dangerous or unrecognized operations.

ERA Lens supports more than simple transfers. It can also analyze supported complex DeFi transactions, including multicall operations and account delegation through EIP-7702.

The information displayed depends on the blockchain network and transaction type.

## **How Does ERA Lens Work?**

The signing process follows five steps.

**1\. Create a transaction**

Prepare a transfer, swap, or another supported operation in ERA Software Wallet or a compatible software wallet.

**2\. Transfer the transaction to ERA**

ERA supports two signing methods:

- **Air-Gapped QR Signing:** Scan the transaction QR code with your ERA hardware wallet. No USB, Bluetooth, or network connection is required to transfer the data.
- **NFC Tap Sign:** When using ERA Software Wallet, simply tap your phone against the device to transfer the transaction via NFC.

**3\. Independent verification with ERA Lens**

Regardless of the transfer method, ERA Lens analyzes the transaction directly on the hardware wallet.

Transaction information is available in two views:

- **Overview:** Essential actions, amounts, addresses, and security warnings.
- **Details:** Additional technical parameters, including smart contract functions and other available transaction fields.

**4\. Review security warnings**

If ERA Lens detects known risk patterns, such as unlimited token approvals to an unidentified spender or transaction data it cannot fully decode, the device displays a warning.

You can review the details before deciding whether to proceed.

**5\. Sign and broadcast**

Once approved, ERA signs the transaction inside the hardware device.

The signature is returned to the software wallet through a QR code or another NFC tap. The application then broadcasts the signed transaction to the blockchain.

**The phone prepares. ERA verifies and signs. Private keys never leave the hardware device.**

## **What Happens When ERA Lens Detects a Risk?**

ERA Lens provides different levels of warnings depending on the detected issue.

For example, it can warn about:

- **Unlimited Token Approvals:** Granting a smart contract unrestricted permission to spend certain tokens.
- **Account Delegation:** Authorizing a smart contract to act on behalf of your account.
- **Unrecognized Contract Calls:** Transactions containing data ERA cannot fully interpret.
- **Other Suspicious Parameters:** Known risk patterns in supported transaction types.

Depending on the issue, ERA may display a warning, require additional confirmation, or reject an invalid transaction.

**Important:** ERA Lens does not guarantee that every transaction is safe. If certain data cannot be interpreted, the device communicates that limitation rather than presenting the transaction as fully verified.

## **ERA Lens on Mobile: Security Doesn't Stop After Signing**

ERA Software Wallet complements hardware-level verification with additional safeguards against common crypto scams.

**Address Poisoning Protection**

The app detects attempts to send funds to an address that closely imitates one of your own addresses and blocks the transfer.

**Active Token Approval Visibility**

See which smart contracts have permission to spend your tokens and revoke approvals you no longer need.

**Dust & Spam Filtering**

Suspicious small transfers are grouped in transaction history, while spam tokens are flagged separately and excluded from the total portfolio value.

**Suspicious Transaction Warnings**

Before a transaction reaches the hardware wallet, the app uses transaction simulation to identify certain potentially dangerous actions and alert you to the risks.

These mobile protections complement, rather than replace, the independent transaction verification performed by ERA Lens on the hardware device.

## **Does ERA Lens Eliminate Blind Signing?**

ERA Lens reduces the need for blind signing by translating supported transactions into readable information. However, some operations cannot yet be fully decoded.

When this happens, ERA warns users that the transaction cannot be completely verified.

The goal of ERA Lens isn't to make security decisions for you. It's to give you as much relevant information as possible before you authorize a transaction.

**Security isn't just about protecting private keys. It's also about understanding exactly what you're authorizing with them.**
